I have had quite a number of queries and questions regarding the treatment of Tietzes so I have written a post on all the different aspects which can help with anyone who is suffering with it.
Definition of Tietzes
Tietze’s syndrome is a benign inflammation of the costal cartilage–the cartilage between the sternum (breast plate) and ribs.
It is characterized by swelling of one or more costal cartilages causing pain that may radiate to the neck, shoulder, or arm and mimic the pain of coronary artery disease.
Traditional Treatment
Treatment consists of local heat, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, or local steroid injections. These usually relieve symptoms. Most often the pain subsides after a few weeks or months but swelling may remain for a longer period of time.
Homeopathic Treatment – Traumeel
Tietzes can respond very well to Traumeel due to its natural anti-inflammatory, anti-oedematous, analgesic properties.
I would use the:-
1.) Traumeel Gel or Traumeel Ointment
2.) and then the Traumeel Tablets or Traumeel Drops
3.) (In severe cases you could initially use Traumeel Injections locally but you would need someone experienced to help you administer them.)
How to Use the Traumeel Ointment
Apply the Traumeel Gel or Ointment twice a day or more if needed but as well as applying it, gently massage the area as massage also can be extremely effective on someone who is suffering from Tietzes.
Further Advice & Recommendations
Gentle Stretching
This is also very beneficial as well as a good posture. Often children are crouched over desks studying at school and home for hours on end and this can further aggravate the problem.
So although they may not be ‘very receptive’ to the idea of ‘improving their posture’, if you are a parent and are able to help them become more aware of how they are sitting etc and for them not to slouch over their desks, this will also help them.
Massage
As mentioned above – but so beneficial.
Osteopathy
Sometimes especially the mid back, (the thoracic area) will benefit from osteopathic work as it maybe tight and compressed so affecting the ribs and surrounding circulation.. One or treatments usually should be enough.
Cranial Osteopathy
This is also extremely beneficial for Tietzes and maybe combined with osteopathy or done as a separate treatment.
Psychological Aspects and Ideas
Although this is often the most difficult area to understand and address it is often the most important to try and look at underlying problems. So often people say they are not there and just look at it as a physical pain but there usually always is something else that is worrying the child and not addressing this just long term creates further problems.
We are all so good at covering up our feelings and just getting on with things – but actually if one really listens to ones feelings and acknowledges them and understands them, the healing that can then occur is so much quicker and better….
Aches and Pains
Aches and pains are often due to a ‘longing to be loved.’
So if you are a parent you can approach this in two ways:-
1.) Show your love, care and support to the person/child
2.) Help your child to learn to to love and approve of themselves.
With the daily rush of achieving and doing all that is needed to be done in a day it is very easy to forget this. By loving, caring and really listening to a person/child so many problems which are there smoldering away can be addressed and by acknowledging and listening to them this helps them develop their own self esteem and approval of themselves.

With any health problems that occur if you have to hand, ‘Louise Hays Book,’ You Can Heal Your Life and are able to look up the health problem or similar complaints, this can help you to work out what the negative thoughts are that might very well be contributing to the health problem that you, your child or a member of your family are experiencing.
Finally….!
Once you are able to recognize the negative thought patterns, listen to them and address them you/they will be well on their way to getting better. Then buy some happy fun films and get some laughter back in the home… this can also work wonders and is fun to do.

Could Traumeel help for soft tissue damage of the foot? Not sure if that is what I have, I am waiting for test results. I have trouble walking on my foot. I had a stress fracture two years ago, that never healed properly. A chiropractor adjusted the foot and now two years later, I am back to square one.
Enclosed is a summary of what I recommend with regard to the question above.
Dear Florence,
Traumeel for this type of injury/symptoms is ideal. I suggest you use the Gel or Ointment and massage it in twice a day.
You could supplement this by taking the Tablets or drops or if you have someone who could administer the injections these can also be extremely good initially. Then I would also recommend you do some strengthening and stretching exercises to the foot and surrounding area.
I have found the combination of remedial exercises and Traumeel together can give outstanding results.
The bodies ability to heal is huge if we just give it what is needed.
Although I trained as an osteopath and osteopathic work can be extremely beneficial I have found that remedial exercises one does oneself to an area that has been damaged can often be better than hands on treatment.
This is because you are able to strengthen and stretch the muscles so making the whole area stronger and more flexible.
This then has a knock on effect and increases and improves the circulation which further helps heal the area that is damaged.
