I am asked numerous questions about Traumeel, natural anti inflammatory, this recent question I felt has not been fully answered on the site. So here is the question and my reply…

The Question

Thank you for all your expertise and passing on of knowledge of using traumeel for horses. I do have a question re: the actual way in which it is given.

I always understood that homeopathic medicines were not to be given with food and/or strong tasting liquids. My mare won’t eat the tablets out of my hand. The recommendation for the tincture is to put it in their feed.

So, what’s the scoop?

Thank you,
Sienna

What Heel Say

Heel say,” Tablets – they have no intrinsic taste and it is possible to mix them with a little water without them losing their effectiveness, it is preferable to administer them between meals.

In cases where this does not work for you, you can mix Traumeel tablets with a little honey and spread it on the part of the animal where it tends to lick itself, the same applies with the drops.

Another possibility is to insert the drops or tablets into a small amount of food, or with horses in to a piece of dry bread, carrot or apple…”

How We Give Traumeel to Horses

If we are giving Traumeel to horses we give them the tablets with a few whole oats. This is a very easy way to give them the tablets. The oats are not strong smelling or strong tasting so will not anti-dote the Traumeel. If you are not happy to use whole oats then alternatively you could try cutting up bits of carrot or bits of apple and mixing this with the tablets.

(We also use the ampules as this then resolves all the problems with giving Traumeel by mouth.)

Other Suggestions of Administering Traumee to Your Horsesl

You could try mixing the drops or tablets with warm water and honey.

Secondly you could mix up the Traumeel drops with water and then spray it onto and around your horses muzzle and the mucus membranes around his/her mouth.

What I Would Not Do

What I would not do is give Traumeel with strong smelling food or alongside peppermint as this is a known antidote so Traumeel will then not work for your horse.
